Virtual Reality (VR) exergames are revolutionizing fitness by combining immersive technology with physical activity. While many VR workouts emphasize upper body movements due to tracking limitations, recent innovations are shifting focus to the lower body. A study introduced a VR exergame centered on vertical jump training, aiming to provide a balanced full-body workout. This approach not only enhances lower limb strength but also increases user engagement through gamified experiences.
The development of this VR exergame involved collaboration with nine domain experts to ensure safety and effectiveness. Key design considerations included preventing unintended forward drift, addressing technical constraints, and incorporating rhythmic elements to facilitate fluent movement patterns. The study’s mixed-methods approach confirmed that the jump-centered exercises offered a challenging yet enjoyable experience, promoting long-term user retention.
